"above all I feel we owe these folks a debt of gratitude that will
never be repaid. This is one small way I can extend my thanks". |
Listen to some songs |
For the last 35 years or so a major focus of my performing has been in the retirement community. I love the music of that generation and I appreciate the enthusiasm, thankfulness, and respect these people show me as an artist. But above all I feel we owe these folks a debt of gratitude that will never be repaid. This is one small way I can extend my thanks. I work hard at communicating this in my programs.
My senior oriented programs feature jazz and popular standards, the great songs of the 20th century (the songs these folks grew up with, the music they love). In my concert programs I also intersperse stories, trivia, and facts that accompany the music. I am frequently told that folks have enjoyed the spoken part of the program as much as the music. It is an enjoyable “walk down memory lane”.
The majority of my programs are solo vibraphone programs (with or without background tracks). In addition to its beautiful tone quality, and uniqueness (many audience members have never seen a vibraphone played live before), the vibraphone adds a visual element to a performance. It’s a lot of fun to watch the four mallets being played on the bars looking almost like a table top, one moment appearing like they’re dancing, the next looking like they’re chasing each other. These instrumental programs (I don’t sing) have become very popular.
My solo piano programs are also popular, especially for background settings and dinner music.
We also offer combo options for program variety and bigger functions. These settings range from vocal or instrumental duo’s to a broad range of vocal and instrumental ensembles.
Adding to the options are the Hawaiian, and very popular Christmas theme based programs offered.

He artfully arranges the musical pieces to flow together to create a wonderful listening experience. He also has a wonderful way of relating to people, especially the elderly.
